School Acronyms and Terms

IB = International Baccalaureate Program. This is the program/ curriculum used at Roland Park. Find out more about IB here!

IB Learner Profile = The 10 qualities that the IB program seeks to foster in its students. Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective. Learn more about the IB Learner Profile qualities here!

IMSOM = Internationally Minded Student of the Month. Each month, each PYP classroom and MYP homeroom votes for the one student in their class that they believe best exemplifies that month’s IB characteristic (see IB Learner Profile above for more info). IMSOM awardees receive a certificate, get to appear on the morning show, and get donuts that morning.

MPR = Multipurpose Room. This large room is located at the far north end of Roland Park’s campus and is used for various school events and performances.

MYP = Middle Years Programme. This is the name for the IB curriculum that Roland Park uses in the middle school grades (6th – 8th grades).

PYP = Primary Years Programme. This is the name for the IB curriculum that Roland Park uses in the elementary school grades (Kindergarten – 5th grade).

Related Arts = Music, Violin, Spanish, Art, and Physical Education (P.E.) classes. PYP students have these classes for 30 minutes twice per week (except Art, which is 60 minutes once per week).

SUG = SignUpGenius. Many of our teachers and volunteer parents like to use this free website to create sign-up lists for classroom help or items needed.
